The Visiting Service for the North of Scotland was launched in 2004 and is making a significant difference to the lives of many people. The people we help are mainly those who are virtually housebound, lonely and isolated. NHS and Social Work Staff, friends and relatives tell us about them.
We visit them and if they meet our basic criteria we endeavour to match them with a volunteer visitor.
This allows the person to chat to them and if they feel inclined take them out of their home for a run in the car, cup of coffee etc. Their needs are many. Each person is different but most are lonely and isolated. The difference it has made to date to so many people is very humbling.
Over the years many visitors and clients have become great friends and in some cases totally rejuvenated the lives of older people.
We have no paid staff and the service is run by volunteer co-ordinators who recruit and train volunteers.
All visitors must undergo a Disclosure Scotland check.
