Norman Newton, the well known local historian and author of many books on Old Inverness, gave a fascinating talk on the Inverness Victorian Market. He covered its opening on Queen Victoria’s birthday in 1870, the great fire in 1889 which caused its total destruction, its reopening and showed photographs of it at all stages. Norman has done extensive research and kindly shared his vast knowledge during this greatly informative and interesting lecture. Thanks Norman, your visit was much appreciated.
His pictures show the original ‘New Market’ before the fire
