The range of services described below depend on volunteers to help deliver them. We are always keen to hear from folk who would like to get involved and others who might want to but who are not sure. If having read about our activities you want to know more then please use our Enquiries Page and we will get in touch with you as soon as we can.
VISITOR / BEFRIENDER
Loneliness and isolation is the greatest problem that older people face.We arrange for the older person to receive a regular volunteer visitor for about an hour once a week or fortnight.
Over a period of time a good friendship develops which can make a significant impact of both parties. This should develop into an enjoyable experience for both parties.
DISTRIBUTING LIBRARY BOOKS
The housebound library service requires volunteers to collect books from the library and deliver them to housebound people in the Inverness and Nairn areas. This is an excellent opportunity for people who are interested in reading to interact with a person who has similar interests.
Once the volunteer is made aware of the clients reading preference, they go to the library, select appropriate books, take them to the client and take others back to the library. This will make a difference to the housebound persons life!!
The time involved is approximately 1 to 2 hours per fortnight.
DUNBAR CENTRE POP-IN CAFE
The centre is a place where people over 50 years come for tea/coffee, lunch and activities. It is a very pleasant environment and we are always looking for MATURE people to join our team.
If you have catering skills, can operate a till, interested in waitressing or just chatting to people and can spare a minimum of 4 hours a week please get in touch.
Working from home.If you have a home telephone, a friendly telephone manner and are available one week in four for about 2 hours from 0900 you could be a Morning Caller!!
This service has now been operating for 24 years in the Highlands and makes daily telephone calls to people who need the reassurance that someone is going to check on them.
